Safety and Meetup Guidelines

Meeting strangers for in-person games is at your own risk. Learn the safety practices we recommend before hosting or joining your first game.

Acknowledgment is required

Before your first game (host or joiner), you'll be asked to read and acknowledge our safety guidelines. This happens on the web, in the mobile app, and even by SMS — when you reply JOIN to an invite for the first time, the bot will text back our policy and ask you to reply AGREE before completing your join.

Meet in public places when possible

Community centers, libraries, recreation centers, and game cafes are great options for hosting mahjong games. They're neutral, well-lit, and let you meet new players without sharing your home address.

Let someone know where you're going

Share the game location and expected time with a friend or family member, especially when meeting new players for the first time. A quick text to a friend takes ten seconds and is the simplest safety habit you can build.

Trust your instincts

If something feels off about a game or a player, you are never obligated to attend or stay. Cancel or leave at any time. We'd rather you skip a game than push through something uncomfortable.

Be cautious sharing personal information

Your home address is never required as a game venue. You control what contact details are shared with other players. You can opt out of sharing your phone number with hosts in Account → SMS & Sharing.

Start with established venues

If you're new to playing with strangers, consider joining games at public venues before hosting at a private location. Build trust gradually with the community.

Reporting unsafe behavior

If you experience any unsafe behavior from another player, please report it immediately to support@syncromate.com. We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts engaged in harmful, threatening, or inappropriate behavior.

When the policy changes

If we update our safety guidelines, every player must re-acknowledge before their next game. The new version appears the first time you try to host or join after the change — read it, check the box, and you're back in.
